Military Research Project

I am currently compiling a new book on all the Brockman and Drake-Brockman family members who have served in military service both during war and also during service in other militia such as civilian military forces and the Honourable East India Company Service (HEICS). I started this project focusing just on Australian members of the family, however, I am now going to include a section on other members where I can get the relevant information. A page will be dedicated to each person featuring, where possible, their photo in military uniform and a short biography about their military service, and their life or career following that service. I originally started this research project a year or so ago but due to the change of adding other family members, progress has been slow. As most family members served in either WW1 and WW2, that has been my first priority, however, I am also interested in people who served in earlier military campaigns as well as those who may have served in either the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Subsequently, I am seeking your photos and any information you have that will assist me. In particular, I am seeking photos and information for any Brockman's and Drake-Brockman's who have served in any of the following services:

  • The Indian Army
  • The Honourable East India Company Service (HEICS)
  • Regular British service units (Army, Airforce & Navy)
  • British local militia units including the home guard
  • Regular Australian service units (Army, Airforce & Navy)
  • The Australian Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC)

A number of members of the 'Junior Branch' of the family who served in India were in the medical corps so I am keen to locate photos of these individuals as many were also high ranking officers. If you can supply any photos of an individual in their military uniform, please let me know. To date, I have received photos by contacting relatives direct but I am still missing many. I have been digitally restoring these photos but this takes a considerable amount of time so I have amended my timeframe for completing this book to June 2008. If you wish to email me a photo, can you please ensure you scan these at a resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch). If you are not sure how to scan a photo at 300 dpi, your local photo processing shop should be able to help you or alternatively, ask any of your teenage relatives.

Hopefully, this page will be updated regularly to advise you of my progress.
